SUS420J2 stainless steel introduction:
SUS420J2 is classified as a martensitic stainless steel. It is used in a wide range of fields due to its marketability, price, and other properties.
Properties of SUS420J2 stainless steel
SUS420 grade is the martensitic high carbon version of SUS410.
420 stainless steel available in different carbon content variations is suitable for heat treatment.
The chromium content of 420 stainless steel is 13%, which makes this grade somewhat resistant to corrosion.
Some other European stainless steel specifications are 1.2083, 1.2316 and 1.4034, which all have a higher carbon content and achieve a good Rockwell hardness when heat treated.
In Japanese specifications, it is called SUS420J2.

Widely used in automobiles, ships, aircraft, various precision parts, industrial machinery, household information equipment, construction and civil engineering and other fields. Furthermore, due to their high durability, their use has recently been increasingly expanded to semiconductor, nuclear power, and chemical plants.
Corrosion resistance of SUS420J2 and SS420J2
The corrosion resistance of 420 stainless steel is best when SUS420 is hardened and the surface is ground or polished. In the hardened state, SUS420 has good corrosion resistance to atmosphere, food, fresh water, weak base and acid, steam, crude oil and other similar corrosive media.
Hardening of stainless steel 420J2
SS420 is suitable for heat treatment up to 52 HRc or more, depending on the carbon content and size of the component. Euro grade 1.2083 is a high carbon 420 stainless steel ideal for applications requiring the highest hardness.
Application of stainless steel 420J2, SUS420J2
420 stainless steel is widely used in the medical and tableware industries.
Suitable for applications such as instruments, knives, hand tools, pump shafts and plastic moulds. It is not recommended to use SS420 at temperatures above the relevant tempering temperature as it will reduce the mechanical properties.
